Yoplait acquisition is completed

This morning employees at General Mills headquarters in Minneapolis were greeted with a breakfast of croissants, Yoplait yogurt, and French music as they came into work.

The special breakfast was in celebration of the completion of General Mills’ acquisition of a 51 percent controlling interest in Yoplait S.A.S., and a 50 percent interest in a related entity that holds the worldwide Yoplait brands, from PAI Partners and Sodiaal. A press release this morning announced the details of the deal.

For General Mills, this is exciting news. Today marks the beginning of an exciting new era for General Mills and Yoplait. We have partnered very successfully with Sodiaal for more than 30 years, and together, Sodiaal and General Mills are well-positioned to advance and grow Yoplait around the world.

Headquartered in Boulogne-Billancourt, France, Yoplait is the second-largest brand in the global yogurt market. In France and the UK, Yoplait markets products in several yogurt categories, including Panier de Yoplait fruit yogurt, Yop drinkable yogurt, Calin fromage frais (literally “fresh cheese,” tasting like a cross between soft cheese and yogurt), and Perle de Lait dessert yogurt.

Yoplait is also available in about 70 more countries, including Australia, Mexico and Canada. And in the U.S., of course, where General Mills has built Yoplait into the No. 1 yogurt brand. Today, 19,000 Yoplait products are eaten every minute around the world. Known as “the Little Flower,” Yoplait embodies French consumers’ appreciation for quality, taste and nutrition.

Chris O’Leary, General Mills’ executive vice president and chief operating officer, International, will have management oversight responsibility for General Mills, with Lucien Fa continuing as Yoplait’s executive chairman.

“Yoplait is in very good hands – I feel confident about that,” says Fa. “We’re only going to get better with General Mills. My hope is that we’ll build the Yoplait brand into the No. 1 yogurt brand in the world.”

O’Leary and General Mills chairman & CEO are in France today to welcome Yoplait employees into the General Mills family of global brands. Hear O’Leary’s perspective on the acquisition of Yoplait in this video interview and how it creates a new global platform for General Mills.

I love your Fiber 1 cereals eaten with Fiber 1 Yogurt.–so good and delicious. Thank you for healthy choices. They are delicious, but I find some Fiber 1 cereals to be a little too sweet for my adult taste buds and wish you’d consider toning the sweetness down a bit. I’ll continue buying Fiber 1 products.

    Thank you.
