Andrew Zimmern has the Munchies

It’s time to show some love to the people, places and menu items that know how to make your mouth water. Give them a “Munchie” award.

Say what?

Tablespoon.com has opened up online voting for “The Munchies: People’s Choice Food Awards.” The voting goes through April 30.

“Bizarre Foods” host Andrew Zimmern, and a panel of food experts and celebrities, chose the nominees in 20 categories that cover celebrity restaurants, chefs, media and food across America.

Zimmern talks about The Munchies in this video clip.

I found out how The Munchies came to be in a conversation today with Heather Reid, in Food Content Marketing at General Mills.

General Mills will make a donation to Feeding America on behalf of all of the voters and panelists.

The category headings are “Terrific Tastemakers” (food media and personalities), “Best Bites (like Most Iconic Burger) and “Delicious Destinations” (restaurants and other dining establishments.)

You can see all the nominees at Tablespoon.com.

The 2012 winners of The Munchies awards will be announced in early May.
