News Bites – April 6, 2012

Every Friday we bring you “News Bites,” a collection of links from the week that covered General Mills, the food industry and our categories on “A Taste of General Mills.” We also regularly highlight content from some other General Mills blogs and websites.

Notable posts about General Mills:

We were thrilled to see “America’s Most Reputable Companies” in Forbes, showing that General Mills ranked No. 1. The survey featured in the article is based on the Reputation Institute’s 2012 U.S. RepTrak Pulse, a study that measures the reputations of the 150 largest U.S. public companies. Kraft Foods was ranked No. 2, followed by Johnson & Johnson, Kellogg and Amazon.com.

Also this week, Chief Learning Officer magazine gave us a No. 1 ranking for our learning and development programs – up from No. 6 last year. – in “Chief Learning Officer Unveils Top Companies For Workforce Development.” We were followed by AT&T, Defense Acquisition University, Accenture and McDonald’s.

As we’ve noted this week, we have released our 2012 Global Responsibility report. Coverage included “General Mills ahead on nutrition improvements,” in FoodBusinessNews.net.

Campaign Asia-Pacific featured a video interview with Olivier Faujour, the president of General Mills in France, Benelux and Italy (“Opinion: CMO World Tour interview with Olivier Faujour, General Mills”). Olivier talked about the role of digital media in business.

And, we continue to see coverage of the “Outnumber Hunger” campaign, a partnership between General Mills, Feeding America and Big Machine Label Group to help Feeding America secure millions of meals on behalf of local food banks. Rascal Flatts is one of the country music acts supporting the campaign. The Boot posted “Rascal Flatts: A Day in the Life,” which included the group visiting a food shelf in New Jersey. “China: world’s largest food market” in China Daily/Europe provides context around a report that shows that China has overtaken the U.S. as the world’s largest food and grocery market.

Whole grains continue to be a popular choice for families around the world. Stephen Daniells, in Food Navigator USA, wrote “Whole grain food market to hit $27.6 billion by 2017, with US leading the way.”

And in “Report shows consumers’ confidence in food technologies” from FoodBev.com, Rebecca Prescott shared news about a report that examines the perception of innovative technologies, including those used in the food and drink industry that will enable sustainable food production.
