Every Friday we bring you “News Bites,” a collection of links from the week about General Mills and the food industry. We also highlight content from other General Mills blogs and websites.

Notable posts about General Mills:

Mark Tercek of The Nature Conservancy mentioned his recent work with General Mills in The Huffington Post’s “Feeding the World Through Smarter Agriculture.”

Multi Grain Peanut Butter Cheerios was mentioned in MSNBC’s pickup of “BzzAgent Announces Winners of the 2012 “Hypeworthies” Awards.” The new Peanut Butter variety won in the packaged goods category.

And, The Wall Street Journal mentioned Julianna Chugg in “More Women Are Primed to Land CEO Roles.” Chugg is president of our Meals Division.

Notable posts about the food industry:

At the Food Marketing Institute’s FMI2012 this week in Dallas, the FMI posted “FMI Speaks: The State of the Food Retail Industry.” Its report outlines several trends, including the use of technology by consumers in stores, and online shopping.

In “Honey, I Got a Year’s Worth of Tuna Fish,” The New York Times examines the culture around the increasing use of coupons for consumer packaged goods.

Also from the Times, the Well blog published “Really? To Lower Your Risk of Diabetes, Eat Breakfast.” It recaps a study published in the current issue of The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.

Food Processing posted “Survey Reveals Consumer Snacking Behaviors,” which quoted a study that more than one-third of the U.S. population say they often eats snacks instead of meals when on-the-go. Certainly many of our products fit into this growing trend.

And from the area of innovation, the blog Innovation Excellence looked into the co-creation concept in product development, in “Creative Consumers are Changing Innovation.”
