New treats from Betty Crocker and Hershey’s

One American icon is partnering with another through the introduction of an all new line of Betty Crocker and Hershey’s co-branded desserts, available in stores in the U.S. this month.

The new lineup of 12 products includes three cupcakes, three cookies and six frostings – based on Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, Almond Joy, Cookies’n’Crème and the classic Hershey Milk Chocolate Bar.

I was part of the team that allowed a few lucky consumers to experience these new products back in March, when we hosted a “First to Taste” event in the Betty Crocker Kitchens at General Mills’ headquarters.

Betty's Bake Day Team

Forty Betty Crocker Facebook fans were invited to have the opportunity to bake the products and share feedback with the overall team (read about it in “Betty’s Big Bake Day”).

The event was a big success, with many consumers making their first visit to the kitchens and a handful returning for the first time in 40 years.

Participants at the event submitted ideas for recipes leveraging these new products. Eight were brought to life and are currently featured on BettyCrocker.com, including Peanut Butter and Chocolate Chunk Trifle Shots and Cookies and Creme Cheesecake Bars.

Taking the positive momentum from the “First to Taste Event”, the team hit the road in June – in the truck shown below – for a 12-day mobile sampling tour that kicked off in Hershey, Penn., and visited five other major markets on the east coast.

Fans at Hershey World were greeted with fresh baked cookies and cupcakes even before they entered the park.

Kids and parents raved about the new desserts, providing us with feedback about what Betty did with some of their Hershey favorites.

The fun didn’t stop in Hershey, as the tour had successful visits to Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., Baltimore, Newark and New York City. Even the crew of “Good Morning America” got in on the action as news anchor Sam Champion grabbed a cupcake and sampled on live television – we hope you liked it, Sam!

With the tour over, we showcased the desserts for Box Tops for Education coordinators, who got in on the fun as they sampled the products at National Box Tops University, at our headquarters.

Similar to what we heard on the mobile tour, the number one question asked at NBTU was “Where and when can I buy this?”

With product being shipped nationally next week, we are glad to finally respond, “Soon!”

This morning, we capped our promotional pre-launch efforts by handing out samples of a couple of the mixes and a frosting to employees at our headquarters.

It’s been fun getting the word out about these great new products!

Editor’s note: The new Betty Crocker and Hershey’s products also are part of this blog post, announcing “200 products launching worldwide.”
