She helps people lose big
Rachel Beller is everywhere. If you’re a fan of “The Biggest Loser,” you know her as the show’s nutritionist.
But you may also have spotted Beller on the “Today Show,” “Good Morning America” or “The Dr. Oz Show.” She’s also the nutrition expert for Glamour magazine. Plus, she’s the nutritionist for the Oxygen Channel series “Dance Your A** Off,” is working on a book, and runs the Beller Nutritional Institute.
See what I mean? She’s everywhere.
Today, we’re fortunate to have Beller with us to share some of her expertise.
Do you have any tips for someone who wants to start making healthy changes to his or her diet?
Beller: The first stop should be in the morning. Start making changes with your breakfast agenda and build your way up. OK, once you’ve changed your breakfast maybe for a week or a couple days, you’ll know when you are ready, move on to the next thing and the next thing. Really package the entire day in a way that would be productive for weight loss … Look for fiber-rich foods such as whole grains. I’d recommend 30 to 40 grams a day.
(In this audio clip, Beller elaborates on how to start eating healthier, especially with fiber-rich foods.)
What are some ways to slip more fruits and vegetables into the diet?
(Beller offers suggestions for easy, convenient and affordable options – like baby carrots – in this audio clip.)
What has it been like for you to be part of “The Biggest Loser”?
Beller: It’s been amazing for me. It’s a reality show, but you realize how real it really is. These contestants are people from all walks of life. They struggle with their weight, and it’s something I think most of us can relate to. I really believe that they all share a commonality in finding realistic, convenient and affordable solutions to promote weight loss and overall health.
Editor’s note: General Mills is a sponsor of “The Biggest Loser.” It airs Tuesdays on NBC (8-10 p.m. ET). Season 13 wraps up this May. The photo of Rachel Beller at the top of this post is from “The Biggest Loser.”
