Good start for Yoki and General Mills

Editor’s note: Today, General Mills announced the completion of our acquisition of Yoki Alimentos SA in Brazil. We asked Edson Silva to write about his experience working for Yoki, and about joining the General Mills family. We’ve also published his blog post in Portuguese, below. You also can visit General Mills.com for more information on Yoki, and Yoki.com.br.

Hello, my name is Edson Silva. I have worked for Yoki since 2001. I joined the company as an assistant manager of its plant in Cambará. I became the plant’s general manager in 2003.

Yoki’s Cambará operation is a team of almost 1,300 employees. We produce a large array of products in this plant.

Now our focus is to get to know General Mills.

We were eager to learn more about the company’s future plans, what it expects from Brazil and begin the integration of the teams from the two companies.

After listening to executives from both companies at an event today, it was clear that Mitsuo Matsunaga, chief executive officer of Yoki, and his family thought about us – their collaborators – when they decided to form a partnership with General Mills, a company that respects and values its human resources. The way he thanked us was touching, and it is reciprocal.

Ken Powell, chairman and chief executive officer of General Mills, was excited about the acquisition, and after listening to him, I am sure that a bond between our company’s history and a successful new future is being created.

Chris O´Leary, executive vice president and chief operating officer, International, introduced the future plans. I was proud to see the brands Mais Vita, Kitano, and Yokitos sharing the screen with Häagen-Dazs, Cheerios and Nature Valley.

Sean Walker, senior vice president and president of General Mills’ Latin America region, talked to us about the importance of Yoki for the global growth of General Mills. He made a moving announcement and said directly to me that we are a winning team.

The opportunities to learn, to discover new techniques, and to grow on an individual basis are amazing.

I had a conference call with my team this morning, and they are as motivated as I am. I described the impressions I had to my team and also talked about our highly motivated General Mills’ colleagues that we are joining today.

The future has come and it is brilliant.

We are ready to nourish lives.

Agora o foco é conhecer a General Mills.
