Serving up innovation for breakfast at CAGNY
A delicious breakfast buffet of new cereals, yogurts, baked goods and granola bars from General Mills kicked off the first full day of the 2013 Consumer Analyst Group of New York (CAGNY) investor conference this morning in sunny Boca Raton, Fla.
The breakfast, which set the stage for General Mills’ webcast presentation, gave attending analysts and their families a chance to taste new items that we’ve launched this year and fuel up for a busy day of presentations from the eight consumer products companies on the agenda today.
General Mills’ Chairman and CEO Ken Powell noted in his remarks today that launching new products is “job one for a branded food company.” In total, he said General Mills products introduced in the U.S. in just the last 20 months have generated well over a billion dollars in U.S. retail sales.
In our U.S. Retail business this fiscal year, the company has launched more than 100 new products.
Today we served all of our new U.S. cereals, including Honey Nut Cheerios Medley Crunch, Fiber One 80 Calories Chocolate, Peanut Butter Toast Crunch, Cascadian Farm Berry Cobbler Crunch and Apple Cinnamon Chex, and offered guests the rare opportunity to taste some Cereal Partners Worldwide cereals – including Lion and Fitness cereals from Europe and Nesquick Pillows cereal from Russia.
An expansive array of yogurt was on display, showcasing the variety of Yoplait’s innovation from the past year in the U.S. market, including:
- Yoplait Greek 100
- Liberté Greek
- Liberté Méditerranée
- Go-Gurt Twisted
- Yoplait Pro-Force yogurt for tweens
- And familiar favorites such as Yoplait Original and Yoplait Light.
General Mills Corporate Chef Ted Osorio was also on hand to serve yogurt parfaits using Yoplait Parfait Pro. He also served Snickerdoodle muffins prepared with Mountain High yogurt, Pillsbury Grands! Homestyle Biscuits and cinnamon rolls. Osorio has been a chef with General Mills since 2005.
Other items on the menu included Fiber One Protein Bars, Cascadian Farm Crunchy Granola Bars, Cappuccino flavored Lärabars, and Nature Valley Protein Bars.
Arguably the most popular attendee at the breakfast was Buzz Bee, the mascot of Honey Nut Cheerios, who greeted fans and posed for pictures.
A team of regional General Mills sales employees — as well as Investor Relations’ Penny Leporte — worked hard to display our products for breakfast attendees with amazing displays.
