Giuliana Rancic helps Save Lids to Save Lives
General Mills teamed up with E! News Anchor and breast cancer survivor, Giuliana Rancic, to kick off this year’s Save Lids to Save Lives program with a special event in New York City last Friday.
Held near Columbus Circle, the event helped reinforce that small actions can make a big impact with activities on site, including a “step and repeat” photo experience, a Pledge Your Part mobile kiosk and the opportunity to sample a variety of pink-lid Yoplait yogurt products.
Celebrating its 15th year this October, Save Lids to Save Lives provides an easy way to support breast cancer outreach programs in local communities.
With Rancic known for her red-carpet interviews at major award shows, the Save Lids to Save Lives team created a “step-and-repeat” experience where event goers could be the stars of the day and have their photos taken on a pink carpet with a variety of props, including custom-made pink lid frames and an assortment of pink accessories.
For every photo taken on September 27 on the Save Lids to Save Lives carpet event, General Mills will be donating $1 to Susan G. Komen Greater New York Affiliate, subject to a maximum donation of up to $5,000.
The Save Lids to Save Lives event also offered the opportunity to introduce people to Pledge Your Part, a new online initiative designed to encourage and empower everyone to make a pledge to help fight breast cancer, whether through saving lids, participating in a breast cancer awareness event, or in any way they choose.
At the event, people could customize their own pledges on SaveLidstoSaveLives.com at the iPad station. Pledges can also be made and shared on the Save Lids to Save Lives Facebook page.
E! News also paid a visit to the event to interview Rancic about her support of the Save Lids to Save Lives program. In addition to her appearance at the event, she embarked on a full day of media interviews in New York City to talk about her personal journey with breast cancer and her support of the Save Lids to Save Lives initiative. Through this program and other initiatives, General Mills has donated more than $50 million to the breast cancer cause.
From now through October, more than 25 General Mills brands feature pink Save Lids to Save Lives lids. General Mills will donate 10 cents to Susan G. Komen for each lid received and for each code entered by 6/30/14, up to a maximum total donation of $1.5 million.
Individuals can clip, collect, and mail in the pink lids together found on participating products. Specially marked Save Lids to Save Lives Yoplait products will also include an online code to be entered at SaveLidstoSaveLives.com.
When a zip code is provided with every lid and code redeemed, we’re able to direct the donations collected from Save Lids to Save Lives redemptions to local Komen Affiliates to support breast cancer outreach programs in local communities.
Thank you for participating in Save Lids to Save Lives!
