Get ready for Go-GURT at McDonalds
Children across the U.S. will have even more reason to be happy when ordering a Happy Meal from McDonald’s beginning this July.
Go-GURT Low-fat Strawberry Yogurt – made exclusively for McDonald’s with 6 grams of sugar per serving – will be a side option in Happy Meals at 14,000 McDonald’s locations across the U.S. It will be available nationwide at McDonald’s beginning July 4.
“We’ve been at this a long time and it’s exciting to see it finally come to life,” says Mike Garrigus, our Convenience & Foodservice group’s senior national account manager for McDonald’s.
McDonald’s is supporting the launch of Go-GURT with a national advertising campaign that features “Happy,” McDonald’s new animated Happy Meal character who will be serving as an ambassador for balanced and wholesome eating.
The partnership is part of McDonald’s effort to revitalize its Happy Meal business by making the meals healthier. Since March 2012, McDonald’s has included apple slices with its Happy Meals, which has reduced the overall calorie count of the most popular kids’ meals by about 20 percent.
In market tests in Austin, Texas; Chicago, Illinois; and Springfield, Massachusetts, 30 percent of customers, on average, chose Go-GURT over apple slices. But that was without any advertising about the option to have Go-GURT as as an alternative side option.
“We expect even more people will choose Go-GURT with the national roll-out in July,” says Cathy Meyer, senior channel marketing manager for Convenience and Foodservice. “And we’re honored to be part of McDonald’s healthier meals initiative because our Foodservice business has been serving healthier options to children for years.”
