Welcome to Canada, Small Planet Foods
Get ready Canada, Small Planet Foods is expanding its presence on May 26 with a dedicated business unit, and the introduction of new Cascadian Farm products.
“We’re excited to bring Small Planet Foods to Canada,” says Ana Bakhshyan, marketing manager for Small Planet Foods Canada. “The Canadian consumer environment is just right for natural and organic brands. Nearly 20 percent of Canadian households are ‘healthful foodies’ compared with about 10 percent in the U.S.”
While two Small Planet Foods brands – Lärabar and Food Should Taste Good – have had a presence in Canada for a few years, thanks to distribution from the U.S. team, Cascadian Farm cereal and granola are new to Canada.
Cascadian Farm will make its Canadian debut with a seven-product launch: Two cereals and five granolas, including two flavors of protein granola.
The two protein granolas will represent the first organic pea-protein products in Canada, according to Ana. The line-up will also be anchored by two of Cascadian Farm’s top U.S. sellers: Multigrain Squares cereal and Oats & Honey granola.
Ana is the sole employee fully dedicated to Small Planet Foods Canada, but getting the business off the ground there required a tremendous team effort by many who were simultaneously juggling other responsibilities at General Mills.
Working like a start-up company, Small Planet Foods Canada launched the new business unit in just six months – a task that typically takes more than a year.
