47th Pillsbury Bake-Off Contest finalists revealed
100 creative home cooks have now been chosen to compete for more than $1 million in cash and prizes when the 47th Pillsbury Bake-Off Contest takes place November 3 in Nashville, Tennessee.
For the first time ever, a public vote will be combined with judges’ scores to determine the $1 million grand prize winner.
The finalists hail from all around the U.S. – 32 states (including 17 from California and 10 from Pennsylvania). There are four men and 96 women and they range in age from 28 to 89. You can see an interactive map at BakeOff.com.
They submitted original recipes in one of four categories Simply Sweet Treats, Savory Snacks and Sides, Weekend Breakfast Wows or Amazing Doable Dinners.
“This year, we challenged contest fans to create original recipes that use no more than seven ingredients and take 30 minutes or less to prepare,” says Jann Atkins, Bake-Off Kitchens manager. “The creative recipes that advanced to the Contest finals demonstrate that great tasting dinners, breakfasts, appetizers and desserts do not have to be difficult to make.”
Some trends that emerged include:
* Plenty of chicken, spice and global flavors for dinner
* Creative snacks like pitas and crackers
* Tropical and unique flavor combinations for breakfast
* And for dessert, lots of sweet and salty combos with plenty of bacon
This year’s Contest also includes several additional, specialized awards including the Pillsbury Gluten-Free Award and the Clever Twist Award to recognize the finalist with the recipe deemed a most clever twist on a family favorite dish.
