Why Usher and BuzzBee want you to dance

Usher can dance. There’s no doubt about that. But … BuzzBee?

See for yourself in the latest commercial for Honey Nut Cheerios.

The pairing of Usher and Buzz led to a fun 30-second commercial directed by Hype Williams, shot on the same set of Usher’s video for his new song – “She Came to Give it to You.”

It really allowed Usher to showcase his skills, according to Gail Peterson, marketing associate director for Honey Nut Cheerios.

“Usher is an overwhelming talent,” says Gail. “He’s a hard worker, but without a doubt his dancing is a gift and something he clearly loves to do. Even during downtime on the shoot he didn’t stop dancing. Trust me, in this ad Buzz had his work cut out for him just to try to keep up!”

The commercial features Usher and Buzz “speaking” through dance, with Buzz stressing the importance of a heart-healthy breakfast. You can hear from Usher, and see some behind-the-scenes footage in this video:

“Bees communicate through dance so the ad was born from that fact and Usher was the perfect choice to bring the commercial to life,” Gail says. “To us it seemed like a fun and playful idea for an ad that people would enjoy and remember. Also, Usher loves Honey Nut Cheerios and was excited about spreading the word about heart health, so it was just meant to be.”

“Dance to me is a feeling, an emotion – the movement is good for your heart in so many ways,” says Usher.

“Ultimately, we want to encourage people to connect through dance and celebrate happy and healthy moments,” says Gail. “Whether that’s dancing to a great song or enjoying a healthy and delicious breakfast like Honey Nut Cheerios with family and friends.”

You can dance along with Usher and Buzz by sharing photos and videos of your dance moments on Twitter (with @BuzztheBee), Instagram and Tumblr using the #BuzzTheBee or #Cheerios hashtags.

The Usher campaign is also being supported by digital ads and public relations. Gail told me there may also be a few special fan experiences over the next six months, so keep your eye out for those.

It’s the latest way that Honey Nut Cheerios is celebrating happy and healthy moments through multiple partnerships and commercials. (We recently featured the brand’s campaign with Grumpy Cat).
