Cheerios to sponsor Ty Dillon in the 2015 Daytona 500

You can add another Dillon to the Cheerios Racing team.

Today, we announced that Ty Dillon – younger brother of Austin, who raced in the No. 3 Cheerios Chevrolet this year – will make his Daytona 500 debut, driving the No. 33 Cheerios/Kroger Chevrolet SS for Circle Sport Racing.

The iconic Daytona 500 opens the 2015 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season on February 22, at Daytona International Speedway.

Today’s news about Ty Dillon continues the long-standing partnership between General Mills and Richard Childress Racing.

“We are so fortunate to have such a great partner like General Mills giving me the opportunity to race in one of the most prestigious events in all of sports,” said Dillon. “Not only has General Mills been a long-time supporter of RCR but also my family, partnering with Austin for the 2013 Daytona 500 and this past season. I can’t thank General Mills and Kroger enough for this opportunity.”

This year, Ty Dillon raced in the Nationwide Series, finishing fifth, and he also appeared in two Sprint Cup races, in Atlanta and Phoenix.

“The Daytona 500 is a major step in Ty’s career and it’s terrific to have General Mills be a big part of this monumental race,” said Richard Childress, chairman and CEO of Richard Childress Racing. “General Mills has such a great history in NASCAR and we will be proud to feature the Cheerios colors on Ty’s race car for the Daytona 500 and the millions of NASCAR fans who will be watching. We hope to bring Cheerios a victory.”

First entering NASCAR in 1997, General Mills has been an active sponsor of the sport for over 15 years working with elite drivers including Jeff Burton, Clint Bowyer, Bobby Labonte, Mark Martin and Johnny Benson.

“We are proud to support Ty Dillon as he makes his Daytona 500 debut.” said Brian Kittelson, director of Shopper Marketing and Motorsports at General Mills. “We have been an active sponsor of NASCAR for many years and look forward to joining Kroger in another season-opener at Daytona.”

Austin Dillon made his Daytona 500 debut in the No. 33 Honey Nut Cheerios car in 2013. He will continue with the No. 3 Cheerios car in the 2015 Sprint Cup Series. If you missed it, we featured a behind-the-scenes look with Austin in June, after a race in Kentucky.
