Mark Addicks reflects on his marketing career
When you talk with Mark Addicks, he’s always quick to shine a spotlight on other people at General Mills, for the company’s innovation and leadership in marketing.
But the reality is that Mark, who’s retiring after 26 years – including the last 10 as the company’s first chief marketing officer – has been instrumental in driving our global brand building strategies and defining our iconic food brands.
I chatted with him recently about his career for this audio podcast. Our conversation touches on his career path, the best advice a mentor gave him, how brands should be built around a purpose, the modern model for marketing and his how he’ll spend his time post-General Mills.
When Mark announced his retirement in September, the company named Ann Simonds to succeed him as CMO. Ann was most recently the president of our Baking Products division, and has been with General Mills since 1995.
