Jordan Spieth is newest Wheaties champion

Today at the AT&T Byron Nelson in Dallas, where Jordan Spieth made his PGA TOUR debut eight years ago, Wheaties unveiled the 2015 Masters champion as the latest champion on the brand’s iconic orange box.

“As one of the most recognizable symbols in sports, it’s a such a tremendous honor to be featured on the Wheaties box,” said Spieth. “I have always been a fan of Wheaties and value its commitment to athletes that give back as much as their on-course performance.”

While baseball was Spieth’s original favorite sport, that all changed at age 12 when golf became his new passion. Since then, he has earned many honors and accolades.

Prior to joining the professional tour in December 2012, Spieth was only the second player ever to win multiple amateur championships. From there, his career took off. He has now earned 12 professional victories.

In 2015, Spieth became the second-youngest player to earn the coveted green jacket at the Masters in Augusta, Georgia. He continued his record-breaking season later that year, winning a second major championship and the 2015 FedEx Cup. He was the 2015 PGA TOUR Player of the Year, 2013 PGA TOUR Rookie of the Year and holds several professional records, including all-time best combined major score in a calendar year.

In 2014, Spieth was also the youngest player since 20-year-old Horton Smith – the first Masters champion – in 1929 to compete on the United States Ryder Cup team, and has earned a spot on every United States team event since.

“I’m going to be on the cover of 4 million Wheaties boxes later this year, which is really cool,” said Spieth at today’s tournament press conference. “It’s the Breakfast of Champions. You grow up seeing your favorite athletes on these boxes. I used to walk down the aisle at the grocery store whenever my mom used to drag me along and I’d always want to see who was on the cover. To actually be on one is a pretty special dream come true.”

Off the course, Spieth is dedicated to charitable contributions close to his heart. In 2014, he launched the Jordan Spieth Family Foundation, offering a platform for him to lend time, help grow awareness and offer financial support to four pillars:

  • Children with special needs
  • Military families
  • Junior golf
  • Pediatric cancer.

Spieth has been inspired by his younger sister and biggest fan, Ellie, who has special needs.

“Jordan’s awe-inspiring accomplishments could only have been achieved through strong work ethic and discipline,” said Jenna Lynch, associate marketing manager for Wheaties. “His continued pursuit of greatness, humble personality and commitment to his charities align exactly with what we look for in a Wheaties champion.”

Spieth’s limited-edition Wheaties box will be available nationwide in October.
